When giving praise, it’s tempting to slip in other instructions.

The issue? This takes away from the positive reinforcement you’re trying to get across.

Always attempt to dish out praise and attention without conditions.

When offering praise it's important to be specific about what your child has done well. This helps them learn what they need to do to earn your attention in the future.

And children quickly lose interest when they know exactly what to expect. Try mixing it up and keeping things exciting. By tapping into your creative side, you can have some fun coming up with rewards too.

If your child has just followed instructions, don’t miss the opportunity to give them a nice reward. Be excited and specific about that they’ve done well.

TIP: Always look for chances to give your child loving attention. Catch them being good and match it with an appropriate reward or mix of rewards.
